How I Shoot and Edit “Jeera: Jelajah Ragunan” Teaser Video?

Videography has been one of my hobbies since I was in elementary school. However, it took me several years to have my own camera, use Adobe Premiere Pro CC, and create Qhansa.Lens.

For the past four months, I joined the Tadika Mesra team to develop Jeera: Jelajah Ragunan App. But since I have a passion for videography, I decided to help the design team to produce, shoot, and edit the teaser video. Here is the link to the Jeera Teaser video.

I want to give a massive shout-out to Uun (Project Manager), Joana (Design Lead), and Levina (Design Member) for creating the ideas and story for the teaser video. It was like they were the architect, and I was the civil engineer. Also, big thanks to Wildan (Tech Lead) & Anggi (Tech Member) for being the leading actress' big brothers and helping my tech backlog. You are the best!!

My Pre-Production Process

Before I shot the video at the Ragunan Zoo, I created a storyboard video to make sure the team & I were on the same page. Also, I have this principle of doing "Shoot to Edit" rather than "Shoot Everything, Then Edit Later". After all, I must ensure I use my hard drive storage effectively.

Here is the Jeera Teaser Storyboard video:

There are some benefits to creating a storyboard video and finalizing it with the team before you shoot at the actual location.

  1. You can save time and money because you only need to work in your office or house.

  2. You wouldn't be too stressed or angry if there were some changes or revisions. Because, you haven't invested too much energy in producing the video yet (although finding ideas and putting the sketches together was already pretty exhausting).

  3. You can manage the team's expectations of your video creations. Hopefully, there wouldn't be too many revisions after the video shooting/post-production.

My Video Shooting Process

The shooting day was when I needed to ensure everything was going well. If not, I must have some backup plans to make something work. Honestly, this is the first time I have been called a director since I see myself as a hobbyist rather than a professional videographer. But, looking back on what I did previously and seeing so much work I need to do, I can say that "I am a director".

From all of the processes I've done in videography, the most important thing I need to do is PRE-PLANNING & TIME MANAGEMENT. I said this because, during the shooting process, you will face the uncertainty of weather conditions and onsite location situations.

My Post-Production Process

Last but not least, in the Post-Production process, you need to be ready with several revision requests from others. So, you need to make sure that you create some minor steps/checkpoints. Before I add the voice-over, sound effects (SFX), visual effects (VFX), colour grading, etc., I need to ensure that the video flow is good enough or at least can answer this question: "Do you get the message/story from this video?"

Here is the Jeera Teaser Draft video:

If there are no changes, I can continue with the post-production process. But if there are some revisions, make sure you edit the revision first and then continue with the post-production process.

Well, that's all about Jeera Teaser Video behind the scene. Thank you for reading my story, and I hope you can find it insightful :)
